Remember His Benefits:
renewal and reflection
by Ann Maree Goudzwaard
II
Volume II of the Festivals of Remembrance series) asks a vital question: How do we hold onto God’s truth in the midst of suffering? Pain and trauma can cloud memory, distort truth, and leave us feeling disconnected from God.
Written out of the author’s own struggle to remember God’s presence when life feels silent and heavy. It offers a gentle path of “remembrance,” helping weary hearts call to mind not only God’s gifts, but God himself—his covenant, promises, and grace—as anchors of hope in seasons of suffering.
This devotional-journal, written by Ann Maree Goudzwaard, offers a biblically rich, trauma-sensitive path back to remembering—not only God’s gifts, but God Himself: His covenant, His promises, His Son, His grace.
“Remember His Benefits: Renewal and Reflection is a gentle, powerful guide for those who are weary, wounded, or simply longing to reconnect with God in a meaningful way. Remembering is an act that impacts us physically, emotionally, and spiritually, yet it requires intentionality and discipline. In my work with survivors of abuse, I see daily that how we remember shapes what we remember—and ultimately, how those memories affect us in the present and future.
This journal beautifully engages that process. Rooted in Scripture, it invites us to remember what is true, while also making space for the barriers we may carry—grief, doubt, fear, or suffering. It doesn’t bypass pain but acknowledges it, and from that honest place, it guides us toward dependence on a God who sees, welcomes, and invites us to ask again. Whether you’re in a season of seeking renewal, facing hardship, or simply longing to be refreshed in your faith, Remember His Benefits is a thoughtful and healing companion for the journey.”
— Dr. Heather Evans, LCSW
“Throughout my years of journeying with abuse and trauma survivors, and facing the ongoing impacts of my own story, I find myself perplexed by what to do with memory. In Remember his Benefits, we are invited to remember the One who has remembered us. For many, remembering can push us toward overwhelming introspection. Through spacious practices of reflection, readers will find an approachable guide to remember from a posture of hopeful dependence and honesty.”

The journal is built around a three-part rhythm—remembering, reframing, and requesting—because healing requires more than recalling truth; it requires reshaping how we see our stories and learning to bring them honestly before God. This structure gently grounds readers in Scripture, helps them reinterpret pain through his promises, and leads them into prayer, offering a framework that is both practical and deeply restorative.
